Create a Project
Set up a project in SkyBridge, give your team access, and understand how a project is organised.
Overview
A project is a site in SkyBridge — a factory, a building, a plant, a group of assets at one location. Everything else you work with belongs to a project: its devices, its data, its dashboards, its documents and its people.
This page covers, all from the SkyBridge web app:
- How a project is organised, and what you can do inside one.
- Creating a project and filling in its details.
- Giving colleagues access to it.
- Editing its details, and deleting it.
You do not need any technical setup to follow this. If you can sign in to SkyBridge, you can work through everything here.
How a project is structured
The shape of it
Your company owns projects. Each project is one site. Inside a project sit the things that make it useful:
| Inside a project | What it is |
|---|---|
| Devices | The meters, PLCs, inverters and controllers being monitored. |
| Data | Every reading those devices report, stored against the project. |
| Dashboards | The views your team looks at day to day. |
| Insights | Analyses that run over the project's data. |
| Messages | Alerts and notifications raised by the site. |
| Maintenance and documents | Activity records and files kept with the site. |
| Authorized users | The people allowed to open the project. |
Nothing is shared between projects. Two sites means two projects, each with its own data, dashboards and user list.
Two workspaces
Once you open a project, SkyBridge splits its screens into two workspaces, which you switch between from the sidebar.
Project Workspace — the day-to-day view of the site:
- Dashboards — the site's live views.
- Asset Management — the devices and equipment on site.
- Data Exploration — query and chart the recorded data.
- Messages — alerts and notifications.
- Maintenance — activity and service records.
- Documents — files stored with the project.
System Workspace — how the site is set up:
- Project Management — project details, authorized users, deletion.
- Device Studio — register and configure devices.
- Insights — set up the analyses that run on the project.
- Configure Message — define what raises a message.
- MQTT — connection details for devices reporting into the project.
- Account Management — the users in your company.
The short version: Project Workspace is where you use the site, System Workspace is where you set it up.

How data reaches a project
A device on site reports into SkyBridge, SkyBridge files each reading against the project that device belongs to, and dashboards, insights and messages all read from that same store. That is why the project has to exist first — it is the place the data lands.
Creating a project also prepares its data storage in the background. There is nothing for you to configure; it is ready by the time the project appears in your list.
Before you start
- You are signed in to SkyBridge. The project is created under your company, so sign in with your normal work account.
- You know the site's country and time zone. The time zone is how the site's own clock is interpreted — pick the zone the site is in, not the one you happen to be sitting in. Getting it wrong shifts every timestamp and chart on the project.
Create a project
Open the Projects screen
After signing in you land on Project Overview, headed "Select a project / action to manage the site". It lists every project you can open.
If you have none yet, you will see No projects yet — Create a project to get started.

Choose Add Project
Select + Add Project above the project list. The Create a new project dialog opens — "Enter the basic information for the new project."
Fill in the four fields
All four are required.
Create a new project
Enter the basic information for the new project.
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Project name | What the site is called. This is what appears on the project card and in the project switcher, so use the name your team already uses for the site. |
| Description | One line on what the site is. It shows under the name on the project card. |
| Time zone | The site's local time zone. The picker is searchable — type a city or an offset. |
| Country | The site's country. Also searchable — start typing the name. |
Leaving any of them empty stops the form with a message under the field: "Project name is required", "Description is required", "Timezone is required" or "Country is required".
Select Create project
The button shows a spinner while the project is set up. On success the dialog closes, Project created appears, and the new project shows up in the list straight away.
If something goes wrong you will see Could not create the project, and the dialog stays open with your entries intact so you can try again.
What you get
The new project appears as a card showing its name and description, with a row of links straight into the site:
| Link | Takes you to |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | The project's dashboards. |
| Assets | Asset management for the site. |
| Explore Data | Data exploration. |
| Messages | The project's messages. |
| Maintenance | Maintenance records. |
| Documents | Stored documents. |
| Configure | The System Workspace — project settings. |
The Assets and Messages links carry small coloured counters when there is something to look at: red for alerts, amber for warnings, and outlined for everything else. A new project starts with none of them.
Kuala Lumpur Plant
Main production site
The counters on Assets and Messages appear only when there is something to look at — red for alerts, amber for warnings.
A new project is empty by design
There are no devices, no data and no dashboards yet. Registering devices in Device Studio is what starts filling it — see Onboard Devices.
Give your team access
Creating a project does not give anyone else access to it. Each person has to be authorized on the project individually.
Open Project Management
From the project card choose Configure, then Project Management in the System Workspace sidebar — "Manage access rights and project information".
Find the Authorized users card
It lists everyone who can open this project, with their Name and Company. Both columns sort, and the list pages once it gets long.
An untouched project reads No users are authorized for this project yet.

General project info
Delete project
Removes the project and everything in it.
DeleteAuthorized users
These users can access this project. Only visible to admin users.
| Name | Company | |
|---|---|---|
| Aisyah Rahman | Acme Manufacturing | |
| Daniel Lim | Acme Manufacturing | |
| Priya Nair | Northwind Services |
Admins only
The Authorized users card is only visible to admin users. If you cannot see it, ask an administrator at your company to grant the access for you.
Select Add user
The Authorize new user dialog opens — "Give a user access to this project." Pick the person from the list and confirm.
The list offers everyone in your own company plus everyone in your contractor companies, so you can bring a contractor onto a single site without giving them anything else.
Confirm
User authorized appears and the person shows up in the table immediately. They can open the project the next time they sign in.
If they already have access you will be told so, and nothing is duplicated.
Removing access
Use the bin icon on the person's row. SkyBridge asks you to confirm — the named user "will no longer be able to access this project" — and on Remove access the entry disappears and Access removed is shown. Their account is untouched; they simply lose this project.
Edit project details
The same Project Management screen carries a General project info card with the project's name, description, time zone and country. Edit them there and select Update; Project updated confirms the change.
Changing the time zone changes how existing data is presented, so treat it as a correction rather than a routine setting.
Delete a project
Project Management also carries a Delete project card. Read it before you use it:
Deleting a project cannot be undone
Deleting removes the project and all of its gateways, devices, data points, reports, messages and documents. There is no recovery. SkyBridge asks you to confirm, naming the project, before anything happens.
If you only want to stop someone using a site, remove their access instead — that is reversible; deletion is not.
If something does not look right
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Could not load projects | The app could not reach SkyBridge. Check you are still signed in and try again; if it persists, contact your administrator. |
| No projects yet | Your account has no projects. Either create one, or ask a colleague to authorize you on an existing project. |
| A project you expected is missing | You have not been authorized on it. Ask an admin at your company to add you under Authorized users. |
| A message under a field | That field is required — fill it in and submit again. |
